- General Stuff:
- --------------
- ClipSave is handy little utility to save the clipboard across boots
- (technical jargon for saves the clipboard when you restart). When you
- Shut Down or Restart, ClipSave saves your Clipboard in the file ClipSave
- Data in the preferences folder in your System Folder. Then, when you run
- the application again, it copies whatever is in the file into your
- Clipboard.
-
- Instructions:
- -------------
- ClipSave is an application. When run, it looks for its prefs file,
- copies whatever was saved into the Clipboard, installs its save procedure
- into the ShutDown Queue, and quits. This means that ClipSave can only
- save the Clipboard if you run the application. If you want the Clipboard
- saved every time you Restart or Shut Down, and restored every time you
- start up, just put ClipSave in the folder called "Startup Items" inside
- the System Folder (System 7), or use "Set Startup" to make ClipSave the
- startup application (System 6).
-
- Other Uses:
- -----------
- ClipSave has another handy feature. You can have the same thing put in
- the Clipboard every time you start up. To use this feature, do the
- following:
- • Run ClipSave
- • Copy what you want into the Clipboard
- • Copy ClipRecover into the Startup Items folder or Set Startup to
- ClipRecover, depending on what system you're using
- • Restart
- Now, the same thing will be put into the Clipboard every time you start up.
-
- Errors:
- -------
- In both ClipSave and ClipRecover, beeping indicates an error. If you
- hear two beeps when you run either application, that means that the
- application failed to find a saved copy of the Clipboard. If ClipRecover
- signaled the error, run ClipSave and Restart. Ignore ClipSave's beeping.
- If ClipSave signaled the error, just Restart and a copy of the Clipboard
- will be saved.
- If there were three beeps, an internal application error occurred. The
- application could be damaged or out of memory.
-
- Quick recap:
- ------------
- • ClipSave Restores the old Clipboard and sets up the system to save the
- Clipboard upon Restart or Shut Down
- • ClipRecover Just restores the old Clipboard
-
- Bugs, Future Versions, and Improvements:
- ----------------------------------------
- If there is any demand, I will probably continue to improve this program
- until it ceases to be useful. If you have any ideas for improvements,
- complaints, or bug reports, please send them to me at the addresses at the
- bottom of this document. Feel free to call or write with problems,
- questions, comments, etc. Don't hesitate; I don't mind at all, and,
- chances are, I'll write back (I <LIKE> mail). If you are sending a bug
- report, please give me as much information as possible. Being able to
- reproduce the bug is kinda crucial. I already have some ideas for future
- versions, such as:
- • Control Panel/Extension interface
- • Improved memory stuff
- • Cooler icons
- • etc...
-
- Background:
- -----------
- ClipSave is my first semi-major project in C. It was written in THINK C
- 5.0.4 with much help from THINK Reference. I just had a need to save the
- clipboard over boots one day, and I decided to write a program to do it,
- because, to my knowledge, there wasn't one already in existence.
-
- Technicalities:
- ---------------
- The ClipSave package should include:
- ClipSave the application
- ClipRecover an application to restore the Clipboard without saving when
- you Restart or Shutdown
- ClipSave Docs.word this documentation
- ClipSave Docs.TEXT this documentation in TEXT format
-
- Other Fun Stuff (Official sounding disclaimer and assorted legal stuff):
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The author, Russ Nelson, is not responsible for anything done by this
- program. Use at your own risk. It has been tested somewhat, but no
- guarantees are made.
-
- The ClipSave package is free, but it's not public domain. This means that
- you can give it to anyone you want, but you can't charge money for it
- without prior written authorization from the author, and the distribution
- must include the entire package.
-
- The ClipSave package is WhateverWare. If you like it, send me a postcard
- or some money, or donate to your favorite charity, or bake some brownies,
- or call your grandmother, or whatever. Hence the name.
